My brief was headshots,'maybe something with colours' so I had a lot of freedom to do what I liked. I decided to do half with the ring light and half with a gel set up as I'm new to gels and still learning how to use them effectively.
I knew there was going to be bold colourful make-up but I was thrilled to see the end result being so graphic and kinda 80's. Anything soft or subtle would have been eaten up by the wash of coloured light so I felt the striking make-up really complimented my choices.
Now I hadn't actually tried out what I wanted to do
(which I had dreamt up the night before) as there isn't enough space in my living room for more than one light but it'd be okay, right?
On the plus side, my set up worked, the modelling lamps weren't working but it just takes a little longer without them.
Except oh no! that's on fire now - the lamp had come back on just in time to set my cellophane alight.
Luckily as the salon was still being re-modelled it had no carpet or other flammables nearby so it wasn't a problem and with the offending bulb removed the shoot could continue.
Both models did an excellent job, Zoe is a pro and knows how to work the camera and Kyogen was so natural you'd never know he wasn't a model. I'd love to work with either of them again, hint hint.
I was super-pleased with the results, you can see the whole set here.
