Without getting too new-agey I truly believe that your tribe will find you. Call it universal alignment or perhaps that Cornwall is just a very small space but when I was introduced to Tim I knew I was talking to a cool dude.

We bond over a love of metal music and I find out Tim is a counsellor. Having myself studied Psychology at university we soon started talking about the mind body connection and talk therapies. Long story short Tim needed a new website and some images to accompany it.

So I meet him in one of the spaces he conducts his sessions. Lovely little space with, most importantly for me, lots of light. He has a friend kindly stand in as client and I start snapping away while missing out on some interesting conversation.

Next door there is a larger space where I set up a backdrop for my favourite; portraits.

I have brought a beauty dish for these so we don't need to be near the window for some beautiful light.

I resist the urge to pose Tim like a fashion model and take some serious, and some friendlier shots. I could spend a few more hours shooting but the room is only booked for so long.

I thought I’d hand it over to Tim to explain his work and where to find him while his website is in development. Read on below:

My name's Tim Aitchison and I'm a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. I'm passionate about helping people overcome barriers to wellbeing, becoming who they really are and going on to live their best lives. I was inspired to become a counsellor by a person who helped me once upon a time, who was also a tattooed metalhead philosopher, and I haven't really looked back. I have about five years experience in the drug and alcohol sector, and have also worked in a local counselling agency supporting a diverse range of clients, before going into private practice at the start of this year.

My primary focus recently has been working with people who have experienced complex/childhood/relational trauma. The aftershocks from this can affect the way we see ourselves, and reverberate into our adult lives without us really understanding why, sometimes without us even being aware of it.

My work generally focuses on three areas;

Awareness: What's going on for me?

Acceptance: Being ok with me.

Authenticity: Being the real me.

The clients I speak to say they choose me because I seem like a real person with a real story, and my approach is grounded in my own truth. I tend to attract younger and middle aged adults who find me relatable and real.

I offer face to face sessions in Newquay and Truro, and am accessible online for clients across the UK. My professional listings are:
